MASTERS / QUEENS

Mandy Etem, Chris Klerk claim titles

 

The 2010 Masters and Queens were held on April 10-11 at Lakeview Lanes.  Mandy Etem and Chris Klerk each won their respective tournaments for the first time.  Etem defeated the 2008 and 2009 Queen Tina Stickney to win the Queens tournament.  Stickney had defeated her earlier in the double elimination format. Etem came back from the losers bracket to win 467-368 and 453-429 over Stickney for the title.  Klerk won all of his matches, winning the title match 491-462 over John Conaway.

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 68th Annual MPUSBC Open Championships was March 20, 21, 27 and 28.  The results have been finalized and are posted below.  All scores and averages have been checked.  Prize checks will be mailed to the team captains April 27th.

LADIES CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 68th Annual Metro Phoenix USBC Ladies Championships was held at Glenfair Lanes. The Unofficial Standings can be found by clicking on the link below  The official results will be posted after averages and scores have been verified.

We will be using the USBC Red oil pattern for the tournament.  For more info on the USBC Red, White and Blue program go to Red, White and Blue

PRINCESS - CLASSIFIED MASTERS

Pluhowsky, Woolsey win titles

Both tournaments had great finishes with Kathy Pluhowsky defeating Alana Hove by 7 pins to win the 22nd Annual Princess tournament. Karl Woolsey won the 2nd Annual Classified Masters tournament, defeating Howard Knuppenberg by 15 pins.

The Princess and Classified Masters tournaments were held at Johnson Lanes on February 27th and 28th.  These are handicap tournaments.  The Princess tournament is open to Ladies that average 179 or less.  The Classified Masters is open to bowlers that average 189 or less.

2 X 2 Mixed Doubles - August 9th at AMF Peoria

Congratulations to Carol Lewis and Jeffrey Lewis for winning the 2nd Annual 2 X 2 Mixed Doubles tournament.  The rolled a 1076 2 game handicap total to take first place and $320.00  Brenda Burns and David Cirigliano won the optional scratch division with a 988 total.

The 2nd Annual Metro Phoenix USBC 2 X 2 Mixed Doubles tournament was held August 9th at AMF Peoria Lanes.  This fun mixed tournament was only 2 games.  Bowlers could enter more than once but only cash once with the same partner.  Below are the official results.

Matt Villegas rolled a 300 game in the 3rd squad.

YOUTH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 30th Annual Metro Phoenix USBC Youth Open Championships was held January 30th and 31st at AMF Shea Village.  Scholarships and medals will be awarded in each of the divisions. The scholarships will be deposited into a SMART account in the youth bowlers name.

$1000.00 in Scholarship Funds was added to the tournament from the Metro Phoenix USBC.

SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 52nd Annual Metro Phoenix USBC Senior Open Championships was January 9th and 10th at AMF Glendale for all Arizona and Blythe certified USBC members age 50 and older.

EALES WINS SENIOR MASTERS

Warren Eales captured the MPUSBC Senior Masters at AMF Glendale. He qualified 4th on Saturday after 6 games.  In the double elimination 2 game finals, he defeated Wayne Swayda 493-401, Kelly Urrea 503-414 and Mike Friedrichs 496-419 to remain in the winners bracket.  Friedrichs came back through the losers bracket and won the next match 395-386 forcing a final 2 game set.  Eales won the championship set 440-413 to win the tournament.

This scratch event was open to all USBC certified bowlers in Arizona that are age 50 or older.

8th Annual Valley of the Sun Masters

Congratulations to Buck Prosser

November 28-29 Bell Lanes

Buck Prosser defeated MPUSBC Hall of Famer Pete Partridge to earn his first Valley of the Sun Senior Masters title.  Partridge was the leader after 4 games in the round robin finals but Prosser defeated him 268-217 to take the lead by 45 pins.  In the position round game, Prosser won 235-225 to secure the title.

MPUSBC AWARDS $1555 IN SCHOLARSHIPS!

INAUGURAL KING/QUEEN, DUKE/DUCHESS TOURNAMENTS

Glenfair Lanes hosted the Inaugural MPUSBC King/Queen and Duke/Duchess tournaments November 21st and 22nd.  These tournaments for Youth USBC members awarded all the prizes in scholarships with a $500 added from the Metro Phoenix USBC.

Kyle King dominated the King/Queen event averaging 254 for the 12 games and winning all 6 of his matches.  Rebeca Reguero was the runner-up.

In the Duke/Duchess event , Andrew Dorsey came away the champion defeating runner-up Autumn Dorsey by 74 pins.

The Maricopa County Senior Women's tournament was held at Bell Lanes in Sun City on November 21st and 22nd.

Congratulations to the teams from Brunswick Tri-City and AMF Glendale for winning the BVL competition held at AMF Squaw Peak. 83 bowlers representing the Metro Phoenix bowling centers advanced to the finals on November 8th,  The bowlers qualified in 4 average divisions in a pins over average competition, each advancing to represent their respective centers
