2 X 2 Mixed Doubles - August 9th at AMF Peoria

Congratulations to Carol Lewis and Jeffrey Lewis for winning the 2nd Annual 2 X 2 Mixed Doubles tournament.  The rolled a 1076 2 game handicap total to take first place and $320.00  Brenda Burns and David Cirigliano won the optional scratch division with a 988 total.

The 2nd Annual Metro Phoenix USBC 2 X 2 Mixed Doubles tournament was held August 9th at AMF Peoria Lanes.  This fun mixed tournament was only 2 games.  Bowlers could enter more than once but only cash once with the same partner.  Below are the official results.

Matt Villegas rolled a 300 game in the 3rd squad.

2008-09 Tournaments

Inaugural Tournament of Champions

2008-09 League champions compete at Brunswick Via Linda

The team from the Pain Center Trio league at Brunswick Tri-City Lanes finished with a 267 game to win the Inaugural Tournament of Champions at Brunswick Via Linda on July 12th.

Los Reyes De Boliche from AMF Peoria took the Youth Team title.  They started with a 217 game and never looked back.

The tournament was open to all team champions of a 2008-09 certified league.  The format featured a Baker format where each bowler alternates, bowling two frames per game.  For the inaugural event, there were a total of 24 adult teams and 2 youth teams.

ARIZONA STATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2009 State tournament is currently running at AMF Christown and Glenfair Lanes  Current standings can be found on the Arizona State USBC website, azstateusbc.com.

 

 

Steven Black, Tina Stickney Claim Titles

Steven Black won his first Metro Phoenix Open Masters title by going undefeated in the double-elimination finals.  He defeated Ben Laughlin, the 4-time Masters champion, in the final match 426-416.

In the Queens Tournament, Tina Stickney won the title for the second consecutive year.  She was undefeated in the round robin finals and defeated Vicki Frizzell in the position round to secure the win.

The 67th Annual Open Championship Tournament is now in the history books.  There were a number of honor scores at both centers.  And a number of bowlers posted personal highs.  Congratulations to all of the champions and thank you to AMF Glendale and AMF Union Hills for hosting our events.

The OFFICIAL RESULTS are now available.  Prize checks have been mailed to the Team Captains on Monday, April 27th.  Congratulations to the tournament Champions and all that cashed.

NEAR NATIONAL RECORD SCORES

Kopper Kup Divas, Brenda Burns, Jennifer Cain, Savahna Klein and Tina Stickney, missed National All-Time records in four player ladies team and game by the nearest of margins.  Their 2883 series was 13 pins short of the 2896 record placing them in 3rd all time.  Their 3rd game of 1046 was 10 pins shy of the 1056 record.   Burns rolled a 300 game the final game for a 787 set while Stickney had games of 290, 246 and 278 for an 814.  Cain added a 610 and Klein a 672 for the near-record totals.  Great bowling ladies and congratulations!

Congratulations to the tournament champions.  They will be receiving their awards at a later date.

LeeAnn Torkelson rolled a 300 game in the singles event at Lakeview Lanes which powered her to a scratch series of 745.

FINAL RESULTS

Marbrisa Perez wins 21st Princess

Marbrisa Perez saved her best game for last, rolling a 236 final for a 51 pin victory over Monique Flores to claim the Metro Phoenix USBC Princess crown.

Rounding out the finals were, Monique Flores, Joan Rowton, Joanna Griem, Anna Brumhall, Deborah Forest, Carolyn De Looper and Daniella Molano.

2008-09 Youth Tournament

The official results of the 2008-09 Youth City Tournament have been posted in the Youth section.  Congratulations to all of the winners.  The prizes, scholarships or trophies, will be added to the results once the breakdown is determined.

 Senior Masters

Mel Shirey wins 7th Annual Senior Masters

Mel Shirey defeated Al Schafer 456-440 to win the 7th Annual Senior Masters at Johnson Lanes.  Shirey was the 2nd high qualify from the field of 26.  He defeated Frank Dietz 460-381, defending champion Larry Hoffman 517-429 and then sent top seeded Al Schafer to the losers bracket 494-417.  Schafer earned a rematch by defeating Greg Waldon 470-435.

BVL City Finals

Congratulations to the Youth Team from Glenfair Lanes and the Adult Team from Brunswick Tri-City for winning the City Finals of the BVL.  Youth bowlers Karina Mora, Zach Gensel, Roz Vassar and Justin Weber were a combined 253 pins over their averages.  Brunswick Tri-City team of Matt Boker, Cubby Hiller, Angela McMillan and Yo You Herron were 147 pins over their averages.

Channel 12's meteorologist Sarah Walters and Dennis Klein of Impact Bowling participated as local celebrities in the Bowl-a-thon and City Finals at AMF Squaw Peak.  Over $5,000 was raised by Metro Phoenix bowlers for the veterans. Thank you!

VALLEY OF THE SUN SENIOR TOURNAMENT

The 13th Annual Valley of the Sun Senior Tournament will be held November 22nd and 23rd at AMF Squaw Peak Lanes.  This tournament has 4-person team, doubles, singles and all-events in handicap and scratch divisions.  The tournament is open to USBC members of Metro Phoenix and Mesa Metro that are 50 years of age or older.  Entry fee is $20 per event with a $3 optional all-events fee.  Entry deadline is November 14th.

VALLEY OF THE SUN SENIOR MASTERS

Competing in his first tournament as a senior, Kelly Urrea won the Valley of the Sun Senior Masters at AMF Squaw Peak Lanes.  Urrea defeated Mike Friedrichs 209-190 in the final game of the match play finals to seal the victory.  Going into the position round game, only 3 pins separated Urrea and Friedrichs.  The other finalists were:  3rd Mike Brinkmann, 4th Bill Evans, 5th Roger Sensing, and 6th Bill Poff.

MARICOPA COUNTY SENIOR WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT

The 25th Annual Maricopa County Senior Women's tournament was conducted October 25th and 26th at Glenfair Lanes.  This tournament was open to all women who are 55 years of age or older and are members of the Mesa Metropolitan USBCA or Metro Phoenix USBCA.  It featured doubles and singles events only.

2 X 2 Mixed Doubles Official Results

The Inaugural 2 X 2 Mixed Doubles was held August 10th at AMF Shea Village.  There were 73 teams entered with a number of bowlers entering multiple times.  Hall of Famer Juli Bayer and teammate Larry Ely were the top team with a 1009 total. They also topped the Optional Scratch with a 952 total.

STATE QUEENS and MASTERS

Congratulations to Tina Stickney and Chris Klerk for winning the 2008 Arizona State Queens and Masters titles at Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson.
